Leadership Opportunity for AONE & AHA

Kirby Bates Associates is honored to conduct the search to recruit the CNO/CEO for the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the American Hospital Association (AHA). As reflected in the title, the role has dual responsibility as the CEO for AONE and as the CNO for AHA. The CEO/CNO serves as a national leader with the AONE Board of Directors and is a member of the AHA executive management team. The CNO/CEO will advance the strategic plan, vision and mission of AONE, the “voice of nursing leadership” on clinical issues, healthcare policy, and nursing practice across the healthcare continuum.  The CNO/CEO also supports the mission and vision of AHA and provides leadership on nursing issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors and Masters degrees are required, one of which must be in Nursing; a Doctoral degree is preferred.
  • Executive nursing leadership experience is required as well as the ability to promote the professional development of nurse leaders, clinical research and the advancement of nursing administrative practice.
  • Experience as a board or committee member on national/regional forum for an association such as AONE, AHA, ANA or a state association is required. Prior employment as a leader in a professional association is desirable.
  • Membership in AONE and active involvement in AONE programs is required.
  • Strategic and visionary leadership with strong business acumen and educational program development and evaluation is required.
  • Knowledge of healthcare policy and the ability to influence legislative and regulatory issues to promote nursing leadership/practice and support quality patient care.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, facilitation and strong interprofessional collaboration.
  • The ability to travel 50% of the time.

Location:
The CNO/CEO’s primary location will be in the AONE Chicago office with a regular need to meet with AHA leaders in the Washington DC area. As the leader of a national association, the individual will be required to be visible and accessible to the AONE Board and members and available to participate in numerous regional and national forums.
