Director, Emergency Services

CMC is seeking a clinically experienced, innovative and transformational leader to assume the role of Director, CMC Emergency Services (Director). The scope of responsibility includes the Level I Trauma, Emergency Department providing more than 82,000 emergency visits annually, and for two Observation units. The Director will work with nurses to continue to advance nursing practice in an area with a strong shared governance model.

The position reports directly to the AVP Emergency Services who is responsible for all emergency and trauma services for the Atrium Central Region that includes three hospitals. The Director will work collaboratively with a dedicated physician team and partner with the Chair of Emergency Services and the Chief Medical Officer. Eight, highly experienced Clinical Supervisors report to this position and provide leadership oversite to Charge Nurses and Staff on a day to day basis. In addition to RN’s, ED staff include Paramedics and Healthcare Technicians. Two Nurse Educators provide support to the staff and have excellent development programs for emergency and trauma nursing. Also have a Navigator who helps with more complex discharges from the ED.

Atrium Health has grown rapidly and is strategically positioned for future development in services, programs and facilities. A major facilities development plan has been approved by the Board. The Director will play an important role in the design and development of a new emergency department planned for completion date in five years.


  • Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree, one of which must be in Nursing. Certified in Emergency Nursing within six months. Leadership certification preferred.
  • Minimum five years emergency leadership experience in a busy, complex emergency department and prior experience in a Level I Trauma Center.
  • Ability to design models of care for an at-risk population.
  • Ability to promote staff engagement, positive patient experience, and achieve national quality and process metrics
