Director, Emergency Services

The Director, Emergency Services, will manage emergency services across three campuses (York Street, St. Raphael’s and Shoreline). The Director will support an inter-professional team and patient centered approach to care delivery, create an environment in which collaboration is valued, and excellence in clinical care, education, and research is promoted and achieved. The Director will lead strategy development and is responsible for effective utilization of all financial, material, and human resources, ensuring appropriate patient flow through the continuum of care, resulting in a high level of patient and employee satisfaction and clinical quality. The incumbent will promote an operation and culture focused on patient and family centered care and enhance a world class model of care signature.

The Director will report to the VP of Behavioral Health and Emergency Services, Mark Sevilla, MSN, RN. Mark began at Yale New Haven Hospital as an Interim Director, Emergency Services in 2012 and has held the VP position for more than two years. The Director will collaborate in a dyad partnership with physician leadership. Each inpatient site has a Behavioral Health Medical Director. Direct reports include a Patient Services Managers (PSM) at York Street campus, a PSM at St. Raphael’s campus, and an Assistant PSM at Shoreline, as well as eight Assistant PSMs, a Patient Safety Nurse Leader, Nurse Educators, and a Manager for Clinical Trials. Although they do not report to the Director, Case Managers provide support in the ED. In addition, YNHH has an emergency services fellowship and an EMS fellowship program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and master’s degrees, one of which must be in Nursing.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in Emergency Services in an AMC or complex healthcare environment.
  • Experience with a Magnet culture of shared governance.
  • Successful experience with large facility development projects.
  • Executive leadership experience at a complex facility with leading edge patient care, customer service and research.
