Director, Langston Center for Innovation in Quality and Safety

Kirby Bates Associates is pleased to partner with the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Nursing in their search for a Director for the Langston Center for Innovation in Quality and Safety.

VCU is an urban public research university located in downtown Richmond, Virginia with over 30,000 full-time and part-time students enrolled in 15 schools and colleges and is designated as a research university with very high research activity. The VCU School of Nursing (SON) is situated within a comprehensive health sciences environment that includes five schools/colleges (Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry and Health Professions). VCU enjoys a close partnership with the VCU Health System.

The Langston Center for Innovation in Quality and Safety promotes interprofessional patient-centered, population-focused, and cost-effective initiatives designed to improve health care. The center offers a unique arena of opportunities to advance leadership, quality and safety science, decision- and implementation science, and innovation.

The Director oversees the Langston Center’s programs, relationships, and fiscal resources that support the Center’s mission and purpose. The Director plans and executes programs and initiatives that advance innovations that promote quality and safety in healthcare. This includes integrating local and regional nursing and interprofessional efforts toward leadership development, health equity and social justice, health policy, wellness and resilience, technological advancement, and implementation of evidence-based practice. Within the School, the Director engages with senior leaders to develop novel and integrative pathways to support the healthcare mission through faculty development, student engagement, curriculum, and philanthropic initiatives.  Within the university community and health system, the Director forges relationships to promote and strengthen these integrative pathways between the SON, the health system, and the community.

The Director position itself represents 50% administrative effort.  For individuals seeking a full-time appointment, the remaining effort will be assigned to teaching, scholarship and/or service within the school or university. Faculty appointment (tenured or non-tenured), rank, and salary are dependent on demonstrated professional achievements.
