Executive Director, Nursing, Heme/HCT

City of Hope National Medical Center (COH), a world leader in cancer research, treatment, and prevention, is seeking candidates for their Executive Director, Nursing, Heme/HCT. COH, a Magnet recognized, NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been ranked among the nation’s “Best Hospitals” in cancer by U.S. News & World Report for over a decade.  City of Hope’s growing system includes its main Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, CA, scheduled to open in 2022, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  COH brings a uniquely integrated model to patients, spanning cancer care, research and development, academics and training, and innovation initiatives. Research and technology developed at COH has been the basis for numerous breakthrough cancer medicines.

The Executive Director, Nursing, Heme/HCT (Executive Director) is responsible for creating a healthy work   environment that supports staff engagement, professional development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.  The Heme/HCT service line includes a 36 bed Transplant Unit (two 18 bed units), an 18 bed Transplant Unit, a 36 bed Hematology Unit (two 18 bed units), a 33 bed Hematology Unit (25 permanent beds with 8 flex beds), 3 outpatient Hematology Clinics, the Day Hospital, Transplant Coordinators, and MUD Coordinators.  The incumbent will have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, and the ability to influence, implement, and manage change.

The Executive Director, Nursing, Heme/HCT works collaboratively to: 

  • Ensure strategic programmatic leadership.
  • Help COH turn innovative ideas into powerful new treatments.
  • Support shared governance and shared decision making.
  • Facilitate team building interactions with staff and establish collaborative relationships with COH physicians/APPs.
  • Support the design and delivery of patient care based on the latest evidence with a focus on quality and safety.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, one of which must be in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 10+ years nursing experience and 7+ years in nursing leadership.
  • A change agent with the ability to use systems thinking and inspire and coach others to be successful.
  • National Certification in Administration.
  • Current California license required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Clinical and progressive management/leadership experience in an oncology setting.
  • Proven track record of success in a union organization preferred.
