Kirby Bates Associates is pleased to partner with the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in their search for a Professor and Chief of the Public Health Sciences Division of Clinical Informatics Research.
Penn State College of Medicine shares an integrated strategic plan and operations with Penn State Health, a multi-hospital health system serving patients and communities across 29 counties of Pennsylvania with more than 17,000 employees including 2400 physicians and advanced practice providers. With campuses in State College and Hershey, the College of Medicine boasts a portfolio of more than $155 million in funded research, more than 1700 students and trainees in medicine, nursing, other health care professions, and biomedical research.
The Department of Public Health Sciences at the Penn State College of Medicine advances health through the design, conduct, ad analysis of population-based biomedical research including clinical trials, observational research, health services research, and regulatory and translational science. The Department includes 60 faculty members (35 tenured/tenure eligible) with four academic divisions: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Health Services and Behavioral Research, and Clinical Informatics Research. It offers six graduation programs—Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Doctor of Public Health, Master of Public Health, M.S. in Clinical Research, and Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security/Public Health Preparedness.
The Chief of Clinical Informatics Research will be responsible for the academic development of a brand-new Division and its faculty members with respect to research and education. With matrixed reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine and the Chair of Public Health Sciences, the Chief will hold a leadership role within the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute, oversee a research data warehouse for the College of Medicine, chair the Research Data Governance Committee, and serve as a member of the Data Governance Council for Penn State Health.

Qualifications:
- A PhD in informatics, computer science/engineering, physics, or mathematics; an MD degree is desirable, but not required
- Significant professional background in biomedical informatics including clinical research informatics
- Strong track record of NIH funding
- Experience teaching and advising graduate students and mentoring junior faculty
