VP/Chief Nursing Officer

Kirby Bates Associates is honored to conduct the search for the Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer for Methodist University Hospital (MUH), the largest, most comprehensive hospital in the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare system. Located in the heart of the academic campus, MUH has 617 beds and is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. MUH is built on the commitment to create an interfaith collaborative center of research, innovation, and training. What began as a dream in 1918 by Mississippi planter, John Sherard, to build one hospital to ensure safe patient care is now a multi-facility organization, affecting the lives of people all across the Mid-South.

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH) is an integrated, not-for-profit healthcare system with six hospitals and multiple outpatient and diagnostic centers with locations and partners across the Mid-South. Methodist Memphis Hospitals has been named the Best Hospital in Memphis by U.S. News and World Report for 2017-2018 and recognized as high performing in nephrology as well as five conditions/procedural services: CHF, Colon Cancer Surgery, COPD, Hip Replacement and Knee Replacement. Methodist Memphis Hospitals refers to the four Memphis metro adult hospitals: Methodist University Hospital, Methodist North Hospital, Methodist South Hospital and Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital which are licensed as one. Methodist LeBonheur Children’s Hospital also shares the same license with the adult hospitals and for the seventh consecutive year has been named a “Best Children’s Hospital,” by US News and World Report. Methodist University Hospital will soon undergo a $275M renovation and expansion.

The position reports directly to Nikki S. Polis, Ph.D., RN, a nationally known and recognized nursing leader. Dr. Polis joined MLH in January 2012 as Chief Nurse Executive. Dr. Polis provides vision and strategic leadership for nursing and is committed to building a progressive professional practice environment that promotes excellence in patient care and nursing practice across the system. The CNO will work in close collaboration with the MUH President and the MUH Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robin J. Womeodu.

The VP/CNO is responsible for leading Nursing Services for MUH and supporting the MLH Mission, Vision and Values. Accountable for developing and implementing standards of nursing practice and maintaining efficient and effective departmental operations, the VP/CNO collaborates with the MUH senior team to ensure the delivery of quality patient care and cutting-edge research and treatment to patients and the community. As a member of the senior nursing leadership team, the VP/CNO collaborates on the development and implementation of system-wide nursing initiatives. Although MUH has not yet achieved Magnet status, that is a clear goal and one that the successful candidate will be heavily involved in.
