The healthcare setting is an ecosystem where the decisions of each leader, department, and employee build off and impact one another. Because of that nature, it’s difficult to pin down a single executive leader as the most critical. But if we had to pick one, the CHRO role would definitely be in contention, as it’s the role that oversees a health system’s most important asset: its people.
Recently, Kirby Bates Associates placed an interim Associate CHRO in an urban academic health system. The system had major initiatives underway when its prior CHRO left, including:
- Modernizing their talent acquisition and hiring processes
- Preparing for continual surveys, most notably from The Joint Commission™
- Overhauling their classification and compensation structure
- Developing an enterprise-wide volunteer program, which doubled as a talent pipeline
This was an organization with an immediate need for leadership to continue driving their current initiatives, yet also an organization savvy enough to know that bringing in the wrong CHRO right away could have enormous downstream impacts. Or, in other terms, the perfect situation for an interim leader.
KBA placed an interim leader with the necessary experience in operations, compliance, labor relations, and workforce strategy in the ACHRO role, and they hit the ground running. The leader catalyzed these initiatives, addressing both the organization’s immediate needs and their long-term goals. Ultimately, the ACHRO brought the system’s key initiatives across the finish line. To read the full story and see the outcomes, download the case story today!
