Director of Quality

Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH) is a not-for-profit rural hospital that serves an island community 30 miles from the mainland. The hospital has a deep tradition of compassion and cares for a population of 12,000 full-time residents that increases to more than 75,000 during the summer months. In 2006, Nantucket Cottage Hospital became an affiliate of Massachusetts General Hospital and part of the prestigious Partners Healthcare System.

The Position

The Director of Quality reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The Director also works collaboratively with the medical staff, hospital leadership and employees to support the quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, case management, and infection prevention goals.

The Director of Quality will provide critical hands on support and leadership to achieve the hospital-wide quality and patient safety, accreditation and regulatory goals. The Director will bring a solid understanding of hospital and quality and regulatory requirements and the ability to facilitate the work of the team and other hospital staff. Nantucket Cottage Hospital offers unique opportunities and challenges. The hospital provides all services from emergency services, medical, perioperative, obstetrics, dialysis, therapies and diagnostic services in a remote island setting. Flexibility and the ability to wear multiple hats based on need is an important characteristic of a successful candidate.

The Director is responsible for leading the quality improvement program; for the development and revision of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH) Performance Improvement Plan; and for facilitating compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements. With overall responsibility for patient safety, the Director oversees the incident reporting system (SafetyZone). The organization and the Partners Health System use the Epic electronic medical record.

Qualifications
  • A Baccalaureate Degree or Master’s Degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Health Services Administration is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of three years demonstrated track record of success in leading process improvement initiatives; two years direct experience in program management of healthcare quality improvement program.
  • National Quality Certification, e.g., CPHQ preferred or attained within two years of hire.
