Interim Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Executive Officer

Kirby Bates Associates, a national nursing Search and Consulting Firm, is working in partnership with Dignity Health at its St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, CA to secure a nursing leadership professional to serve on an interim basis as the COO/CNEO. This is a wonderful opportunity for a seasoned nursing administrator in providing leadership within an outstanding organization. This opportunity affords the right candidate to serve as St Mary’s COO/CNEO with the primary responsibility for ensuring that operations and nursing care delivery is efficient, effective and promotes patient safety.

Reporting to the Hospital President/CEO, the COO/CNEO has strategic, fiscal, operational and educational responsibility and accountability for operations and the delivery of patient care throughout the organization.

The Position

The Interim COO/CNEO provides leadership, direction, and administration for operations and the delivery of nursing care at this Dignity Health full service hospital.  Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operations for patient care delivery in accordance with all applicable regulatory agencies to assure the highest degree of quality and patient safety. Provides leadership and direction. Role models service excellence standards and builds teams that collaborate with others to serve and exceed the expectations of patients, family, and colleagues. Manages and fosters positive physician relations and supports growth and development for nursing staff throughout the organization. Requirements for the position include:

  • Current RN License in the State of California required.
  • Master’s degree required; a minimum of Master’s or Bachelor’s degree must be in Nursing.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of nursing leadership experience at the CNO level.
  • Leadership experience in a unionized hospital environment.
  • Strongly preferred: Experience as an interim leader, preferably at the CNO level; Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC) certification, Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) certification, or other nationally recognized national certification.
