Interim Director Emergency Department

Kirby Bates Associates, a national nursing Search and Consulting Firm, is working in partnership with the prestigious Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO to secure a nursing leadership professional to serve on an interim basis as the Director of the Emergency Department. This is a wonderful opportunity for a seasoned nurse leader in providing leadership within an outstanding organization. This opportunity affords the right candidate to work with a recently appointed CNO in a nationally recognized, ANCC Magnet Designated Academic Medical Center.

Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of the Emergency Department has strategic, fiscal, operational and educational responsibility and accountability for the standards of care and service within the Department and related areas.

 

The Position

The Interim Director of the Emergency Department provides leadership, direction, and administration for a high volume, level I Trauma Center with 100,000+ annual visits. Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operations of the Emergency Department in accordance with  all applicable regulatory agencies to assure the highest degree of quality and patient safety.  Provides leadership and direction.  Role models service excellence standards and builds teams that collaborate with others to served and exceed the expectations of patients, guests, and colleagues. Manages and fosters positive physician relations and supports growth and development for staff of assigned areas. Models appropriate behavior and fosters staff engagement as exemplified in Jewish-Barnes Mission, Vision and Values.

Requirements for the position include:

  • Master’s degree required; a minimum of Master’s or Bachelor’s degree must be in Nursing.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of management experience within an emergency department setting, preferably high volume and high intensity.
  • Current license as an RN in the State of Missouri.  MO is a part of the enhanced Nurse Licensure compact.
  • Strongly preferred: Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC) certification, Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) certification, or other nationally recognized national certification.
