Chief Nursing Officer

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) was formed in 2013, serving 29 Pennsylvania counties and portions of New York, Ohio and West Virginia. AHN extends their reach to more people than ever and offers a broad spectrum of care and services. They have eight hospitals with over 2,000 beds, including: Allegheny General, Allegheny Valley, Canonsburg, Forbes, Jefferson, Saint Vincent, Westfield Memorial, and West Penn; 6 surgery centers and more than 200 primary and specialty-care practices. Wexford Hospital will be the ninth AHN acute care facility and is scheduled to open in Spring 2021.  Wexford Hospital is currently in the architectural planning phase.

The Position

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of AHN Wexford Hospital provides leadership at the executive level for the organization’s nursing services and contributes to the development of the organization’s strategic plan. During the hospital design/build phase, the CNO will participate in, and where appropriate, lead elements of the initiative, ensuring optimization of cost, quality, and efficiency; caregiver engagement; workflow analysis; and recruitment strategies. This involvement includes, but is not limited to, physical space design, equipment acquisition, clinical and operational protocol development, and creation of recruitment and staffing plans based on service line needs.

The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for all inpatient nursing and emergency services and will have dotted line responsibility for peri-operative services. One of the driving tenants of the organization will be the immediate implementation of shared governance concepts with the goal for Magnet designation. As a clinician – led hospital, Magnet principles are being applied throughout the design and operational planning phases in order to foster a culture of collaboration, shared decision making, safety and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a DNP or other Doctoral Degree strongly preferred, a Master of Science in Nursing required. Must enroll or be enrolled in a DNP program with expected completion within 2 years of hire or currently enrolled in a PhD program with expected completions within 4 years of hire.
  • Licensure or eligibility within three months of employment for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ progressive leadership experience required, CNO experience highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Magnet designation required.
  • National ANCC certification required.
