The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) is a seeking a qualified nursing executive to assume dual responsibilities as the Chief Executive Officer of AONE as well as the Chief Nursing Officer/Senior Vice President of the American Hospital Association (AHA). The CEO/CNO reports directly to the AONE Board of Directors for the overall management of AONE. The position also reports to the President & CEO of AHA and will partner with the AHA CMO/SVP Research. The incumbent will be committed to advancing the work of the AONE strategic plan, furthering the mission & vision of AONE, representing and leading nursing issues for the AHA, and aligning the foundation philanthropy with the strategic direction of AONE. The candidate will also be required to fulfill a variety of fiduciary, strategic, organizational development, leadership and governance responsibilities associated with AONE and AHA. These include serving as an active National Nursing Leader with the AONE Board and participating as a member of the executive management team of the AHA.
- Bachelors and Masters degrees are required, one of which must be in Nursing; a Doctoral degree is preferred.
- Board Certified, Advanced Nurse Executive (NEA-BC) or Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP). Must obtain Certification as an Association Executive (CAE) within one year of employment.
- A minimum of 12 years healthcare experience including experience as an executive nursing leader.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the professional development of nurse leaders, clinical research and the advancement of nursing administrative practice. Strategic and visionary leadership with strong business acumen.
- Experience as a board or committee member on national/regional forum for an association such as AONE, AHA, ANA or a state association is required. Prior employment as a leader in a professional association is desirable.
- An inspirational leader who builds relationships and works effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to AONE with active engagement as a member and involvement in AONE programs.
- Demonstrates experience in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating educational activities for nurses.
- Knowledge of healthcare policy and the ability to influence legislative and regulatory issues to promote nursing leadership/practice and support quality patient care.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication, facilitation and strong interprofessional collaboration skills.
- The ability to travel 50% of the time.
