Assistant Vice President Perioperative Services

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH), is seeking a highly experienced, contemporary nursing leader for the role of Assistant Vice President Perioperative Services. The AVP will report directly to the highly respected CNO, Eileen Ferrell, and will be responsible for the continuum of perioperative services. The current facility with 24 ORs and a case mix index > 3, performs tertiary and quaternary procedures with major surgical service lines in neurosurgical, transplant, orthopedics, plastics and oncology. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and expertise to lead in a mature Magnet culture optimizing staff engagement and interprofessional collaboration with physicians and other disciplines. The successful candidate will be a highly visible leader who is committed to the highest standards of nursing practice and quality of patient care. The candidate will also play a critical role in shaping the future of surgical care through the planning, design and opening of a new surgical pavilion.

MGUH is embarking on a critical and exciting path to advance healthcare delivery with a new, state-of-the-art facility. The approximately 477,000 square foot Medical/Surgical Pavilion will house 32-OR suites divided into two 16-suite perioperative floors, managing the continuum from pre-admission to discharge. In addition, the new facility will have 156 private patient rooms, a new Emergency Department, a rooftop helipad with direct access to the Emergency Room and underground parking.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree required, one of which must be in Nursing.
  • An advanced level of knowledge of current standards, practice and administrative/operational matters in surgical services in a quaternary academic medical center.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years in senior nursing leadership roles in an academic center or complex surgical environment.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare system and knowledge of perioperative design and construction is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in Magnet principles and the ability to lead in surgical services in a mature Magnet culture required.
