Sparrow is the Lansing area’s only community-owned, community-governed health system. Sparrow’s impact is felt across mid-Michigan at more than 115 sites of care: E.W. Sparrow Hospital in Lansing; community hospitals in Carson City, Charlotte, Ionia, and St. Johns; and the 478 Sparrow primary care providers and specialists serving patients across the region.
Physicians Health Plan began in 1980, when Sparrow Health System and a group of visionary physicians began developing mid-Michigan's first broad-based independent practice association (IPA), a type of health maintenance organization. In 1982, PHP introduced its first products to the market.
