Chief Nursing Officer
Sigma Nursing (Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing)
Remote with domestic and global travel
Kirby Bates Associates has been exclusively retained by Sigma Nursing to conduct a search for its next Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Sigma Nursing is the global honor society of nursing, advancing world health through leadership, scholarship, and service. With a strong international presence, Sigma partners with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, professional associations, and global agencies to elevate the nursing profession worldwide.
Sigma is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to serve as its senior nursing and clinical executive during this pivotal period. This is a reimagined role — one designed to bring strategic clarity, global credibility, and an elevated nursing voice to the organization. Sigma is entering a new era of transformation following the approval of a bold multi‑year strategic framework. This represents an intentional shift toward innovation, broader partnerships, and a clearer value proposition for nurses across academic, clinical, and leadership pathways.
Why The CNO Role Is Unique:
- Serve as the senior nursing executive for a globally recognized professional association dedicated to advancing nursing leadership and scholarship.
- Sigma is redefining what it means to be a global nursing organization — balancing its roots as an honor society with its future as a modern, inclusive, international professional association.
- The role combines global influence (representing Sigma on an international stage) with hands‑on strategic partnership across publications, learning, advocacy, membership, and innovation.
What You will Focus On:
- The CNO has the opportunity to redefine the CNO role and help influence and shape Sigma’s strategic direction.
- Helping Sigma expand its relevance beyond academia and deepen engagement with clinical and other nurses globally.
- Serving as Sigma’s senior nursing voice, recognizing that Sigma is a voice of nurses, not the voice.
- Partnering closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to ensure nursing and clinical strategy align with Sigma’s new strategic framework.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing, doctorate highly preferred.
- Unencumbered Registered Nurse license.
- 7-10 years progressive administrative and/or executive leadership experience.
- Experience in a nonprofit professional or service organization/association.
- A highly collaborative, relationship driven, forward thinking leader who brings a balanced Nursing voice.
- Ability to lead effectively through ambiguity, drive change management initiatives, and shape organizational culture during periods of growth and transformation.
- Strong financial/business acumen and contract negotiation skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Emotionally intelligent leader with strong cultural awareness.
- A visionary leader with horizon scanning ability who brings an understanding of global nursing perspectives.
