Chief Nursing Officer

 

The SVP/CNO of Rhode Island Hospital (RIH) provides the vision, strategic direction and operational leadership for Nursing in all clinical settings in RIH and Hasbro Children’s Hospital which are both academic teaching and Level 1 Trauma Centers. The SVP/CNO will engage nursing leaders and staff in the establishment of a professional nursing culture that advances nursing practice to deliver high quality patient care, attain clinical outcomes, and ensure a positive patient experience. Shared governance and Relationship Based Care are practiced. The dyad model of interprofessional collaboration is promoted from the executive level to the unit level.

The Position and Team Members

  • Leaders of Medical, Surgical, Perioperative Services (Main, Ambulatory on-site & Whalen Square ASC) Endoscopy (Main and Whalen Square), Pediatrics (Hasbro Children’s), Emergency Services (Main and Hasbro), Respiratory Care/Neuro Services, EKG/EEG, Psychiatry, Critical Care, Pulmonary, Sleep Lab
  • Matrix nursing practice responsibility for Lifespan Oncology, Ambulatory Services, Dialysis Services
  • 2,600 RNs
  • Clinical Nurse Manager and Assistant Clinical Managers lead patient care units
  • Advanced Practice Managers support clinical excellence at the unit level

Education and Experience Criteria

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business, or related field. Preferred Doctoral degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process
  • Demonstrated ability to establish inter-professional collaboration and work with highly qualified specialty physicians
  • Ability to work effectively with all clinical disciplines and across
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with increasing leadership responsibility for nursing and nursing practice
  • Experience in managing clinical services including productivity enhancement, new program development, and continuous quality improvement
  • Experience creating a vision for nursing, engaging staff and advocating for professional nurses and staff, while achieving institution-wide goals
  • Comfortable working within a union environment and ability to establish collaborative relationships with multiple unions.
