Vice President Patient Services

Smilow Cancer Hospital is the signature service line for YNHH and one of only 49 Comprehensive Cancer Centers designated by the National Cancer Institute. Since the new 15-story cancer hospital opened in 2010, the transformational leadership team has created clinical programs, which have achieved stellar results in clinical practice, staff satisfaction, patient experience and clinical research. Since that time, Smilow has extended oncology programs to include 15 ambulatory Cancer Care Centers across the state of CT and established Smilow Cancer Hospitals at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport and Lawrence + Memorial in Waterford. Smilow is engaged in the latest treatment for cancer and clinical research, which reaches into the community; 22% of the new clinical trials are from the community centers. Their comprehensive services provide the latest techniques and interventions in surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, treatment combinations and conservative monitoring.

The Position

The Vice President Patient Services (VPPS) will work collaboratively with the Physician-in-Chief, the SVP & Executive Director Oncology Services and the Chief Medical Officer in a shared leadership model. The VPPS will be actively engaged in YNHHS strategic initiatives to expand oncology services across the region. The VPPS plays a critical role in promoting cancer research and advancing the care and science of oncology. The VPPS will oversee and ensure the integrity of the clinical research mission. In addition, the VPPS holds overarching responsibility for operational oversight of the Smilow Cancer program across the expansive ambulatory network and within the hospital-based programs throughout the region. The VPPS will be a visible leader and represent the Smilow Cancer Hospital to the community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and master’s degrees, one of which must be in Nursing.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in oncology in an AMC or complex healthcare environment.
  • Experience in an NCI-designated, or comprehensive cancer center preferred.
  • Knowledge of Magnet and ability to work in and promote a professional practice environment.
  • Highly visible leadership style with a primary focus on promoting a positive and engaged staff culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop an environment that achieves clinical outcomes and excellence in patient experience.
  • Able to partner with physicians and other disciplines to promote leading-edge research and to advance clinical science.
