VP and CNO

MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital is seeking an exceptional nursing leader to assume the position of Vice President Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The Vice President/CNO will direct administrative, clinical, educational and operational activities of the Nursing Services Division. The Vice President/CNO will serve as an active member of the Corporate Nursing leadership team and provide leadership for operational services at the local level. The incumbent will drive clinical practice innovation while assuring the achievement of performance targets for quality, safety, efficiencies, and the patient experience. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the COO/CMO, hospital and patient care leaders, and medical staff to foster and catalyze innovation supporting a high reliability organization. Additionally, the VP will advance organizational goals through participation with leaders in collaborative decision-making processes and structures.

The successful candidate will support interdisciplinary collaborative practice, be accountable for promoting and maintaining patient outcomes, support the standardization of evidence based nursing practice reducing variability, and provide direction for the continued achievement of stellar HCAHPs and patient experience results. Mission driven activities within the nursing department are focused on the reduction of pressure ulcers, reduction in falls and fall related injuries, and prevention of hospital acquired infections. Supporting the continued drive towards practice excellence is paramount for the Department.

Qualifications
  • Key qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare field required; specialty certification preferred.
  • Ten years of progressive nursing leadership experience highly desirable.
  • A results oriented leader with a focus on outcomes, demonstrated expertise in relationship development, established ability to work effectively and collaboratively, proven ability to coach and develop nursing leadership staff, and engage staff at all levels of the organization.
  • A visible leader with an approachable, personable, and optimistic demeanor possessing effective interpersonal skills including the ability to promote teamwork and ensure a high degree of internal and external customer satisfaction is a must.
